Many do not know about Via Dolorosa, but for Twin Pine Stables she was the pinnacle of accomplished breeding through the starter horses they received through other stables. Sired by Twister Warning out of Splash Mountain, the lineage boasted old and prestigious breeding and eluded to the possible greatness of the crossing.
Both the dam and the sire bred together many times over the years, but the magic did not happen until the black filly was born early one misty morning at Twin Pines who later became registered as Via Dolorosa.
During her racing career she amassed over a million dollars and winning sixteen of eighteen starts, even participating in EQ Turf Dash (G1). She was a tough racer who's inability to lose most of her races made her a massive shadow looming over the other competitors in the field. After running in the EQ Turf Dash she retired to broodmare to begin the next step of her life.
Via Dolorosa's broodmare career proved fruitful as she produced Coracinus Cuius (122 rated mare), Diamond Rose (124 rated mare), Fabulous Finish (119 rated gelding), and Modest Success (115 rated mare). Twin Pine Stables fell under disrepair and had a massive dispersal sale as the owner lost interest in the business. Selling most of the horses off, the owner kept Via Dolorosa (now an aging broodmare) on the farm as a sentimental relic. The black mare spent her days in the sun and lush grass for many years until the owner returned years later to re-breed the great old lady before she could not produce anymore foals.
The last two foals reside on the farm; Deadly Dora her current two year old, and Victimology this years foal and the very last one. Though they don't carry the dam's pitch black coat, they will carry on her legacy. Deadly Dora is by Deadly Soliloquy who is now retired to greener pastures. The light gray filly had her first start this past week and won her 80k Opt. Claiming race under a hand ride clocking a 84.05 pace. The darker gray, almost black youngster of her half sister, Victimology runs in the pastures with her playmates for a few more months before undergoing basic training. Both fillies are the future hope for the farm and will never be sold to outside buyers. The biggest hope lies in Victimology, the very last foal from Via Dolorosa, with good breeding and a little luck, Twin Pines looks to her to burn up the track in July.
